How is it already time for school drop-offs and packed lunches again? Every year I try to get just a little more ahead of the chaos, and this time I’m feeling pretty good about our setup.
From the everyday must-haves like water bottles and headphones to the little organization hacks that keep our mornings moving (looking at you, sock drawer in the mudroom), these are the things that are truly making life easier for our whole family. I’m all about simple solutions that actually work, so I’m sharing what we’re using right now to stay prepared, organized, and maybe even a little less rushed.

1. Headphones

One universal truth is that kids need headphones at school these days! These wired headphones are perfect for elementary age kids. With a built-in microphone and volume-limiting feature, they keep things safe while still allowing for clear sound.
The adjustable headband and cushioned earpads make them super comfortable for long listening sessions. Plus, they come in multiple colors, so each kid can pick their favorite! My oldest is going on his 4th year with these!
2. Paper Storage

Am I the only one who’s always overwhelmed by all the paper that come home? I grabbed this last year and put it in my kitchen cupboard for easy access to hep keep me organized.
I keep one row for each kid and one for me and my husband. I keep important papers or things I need to hold on to here! The kids know that test prep or teacher documents go here so they can always check here first before asking where something is.
3. Sock Drawers

Ok not technically a school item but trust me, it saves my sanity in the school year (and any other time we’re heading out the door). In winter months we always need proper storage for hats and mittens so I found this set of drawers that I use for each kid. One drawer is for hats, one is for mittens and one is for socks!
I keep this in our mudroom since inevitably a kid comes downstairs not wearing socks! It keeps our mornings more smooth to just have everything in one spot!
4. Magnetic Clips

These non scratching magnetic clips are perfect for hanging up art projects, reminders, or any important papers we need to keep in sight. They hold up well and do not damage surfaces, which is always a bonus.
5. Labels

Assorted Shapes and Sizes Labels | Assorted Border Color Labels
We love these labels. The fabric ones are perfect for jackets, sweatshirts, and anything else that might end up in the lost and found. The more durable labels are great for water bottles and lunch containers and they actually stay put even after multiple washes.
6. Skylight

The Skylight keep us organized! Each person in our family has a different color so we all know who has what coming up. I also meal plan for both dinners and school lunches on this.
7. Backpack

The JanSport backpack is our tried and true favorite. It’s one of those brands that has truly stood the test of time, I used one growing up, and now my kids do too! It’s durable, classic, and still in one piece by the end of the school year, which is a win in my book.
8. Lunchbox

We have used plenty of lunch boxes, but this one is a standout. With its compartments, it makes packing a balanced meal a breeze, and it is the perfect size for my younger kids. It is leak proof, durable, and dishwasher safe. Plus, it is easy for little hands to open and still comes home in one piece!
9. Water Bottles

These Yeti Ramblers are our must have water bottles for school days. They’re tough, they don’t spill, and they can keep up with whatever the day throws at them. My kids love adding their favorite stickers to make them their own, which makes staying hydrated just a little more fun!
10. Night Before Checklist

Sometimes having a simple checklist for your kids to mark up makes evening (and of course, mornings) that much simpler. Rather than asking my kids if they 5 different things, I ask if they did their night time prep instead!
I’ve created an editable canva document of this printable for you!
