As you prepare for your new baby, one big question you need to figure out is where will your baby sleep after they’re born? If you plan to have them sleeping in your room, you need somewhere safe but also easy to use, especially as you’re recovering from either a C-section or vaginal birth. You may recognize the name Halo from my Halo Sleepsack Swaddle review! I’ve used Halo products with all three of my babies and love their products.
Halo’s Mission
The mission of Halo is to make simple, innovative products that make safe sleep easier for you and more comfortable for your baby. HALO’s founder Bill Schmid and his wife tragically lost their daughter to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, also knows as SIDS. SIDS is the sudden, unexplained death of a seemingly healthy infant up to the age of 1 year.
According to Halo’s website, this loss led Bill to do exhaustive research on the latest medical research and health recommendations for creating a safe sleep environment for babies. He wanted to ensure other families would not have to endure the same tragedy.
Bill also launched the HALO Safer Way to Sleep Hospital Modeling Program, which provides free HALO SleepSack wearable blankets, training and educational tools to help hospitals educate parents about safe sleep. Our hospital is one of those hospitals!

When we got pregnant with our third baby, Halo so graciously sent us a HALO BassiNest Swivel Sleeper to use with Miles. I was beyond thrilled to try it out! (You can buy one here!)
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that babies sleep in your room for the first 6 months to one year, in a separate surface designed for babies. We typically start out with our kids sleeping in our room until they aren’t waking up in the middle of the night. Because of that, having HALO BassiNest was amazing!
HALO BassiNest Product Information
The HALO BassiNest Swivel Sleeper is the only bassinet that swivels a full 360 degrees. This makes it super easy for you to pull your baby in close to sleep (but still in their own safe space!) and also to gently move the bassinet away when you need to get out of bed.
The mesh not only makes it safe and breathable for your baby, but it means you can see them — and they can see you! — while you’re lying down in bed.
It also has one wall that lowers so you can easily scoop your baby up without even having to get out of bed! This wall can also be locked if wanted (like if little brothers or sisters tend to get curious!).
It also has a storage pocket to keep essentials like diapers, wipes or pacifiers close by for when you need them. The mattress is waterproof for the inevitable blow out or spit up and has easy-to-use sheets to use and wash.
The height is adjustable so you can set it to the right height for your bed. It makes it so easy to recover and get through those rough nights!
The bassinet has a wide four-point base for great stability. It has an improved base design with low profile legs that fit under most beds and require only 32 inches clearance from the wall.
You’ll notice that it doesn’t fit under our bed. We actually have a built-in drawer in our bed, so there’s no space under the mattress. I didn’t seem to mind, though, and was still able to keep Miles nice and close in his bassinet!
The HALO BassiNest is recommended for babies up to 5 months or 20 pounds. If your baby starts to roll over or pull up, it’s time to stop using the bassinet.
In the new Luxe series the top comes off to use the bassinet all over your home without the base!

How do you clean HALO BassiNest?
If you need to clean the sides, all you need to do is wipe it with a damp cloth. The sides are made from 100% polyester material.
It also has a removable fitted sheet that’s machine washable.
When to stop using HALO BassiNest?
Like mentioned above, when your baby starts to roll or pull up or gets to 5 months or 20 pounds, then it’s time to stop.
How long is the nursing timer on the HALO BassiNest?
The timer alerts you after 15 minutes of nursing, again at 29 minutes and then shuts off at 30 minutes. This way you’ll know when to switch sides or put the baby back in the bassinet, even in the middle of the night.

Where can I buy the HALO BassiNest?
You can get a HALO BassiNest at any number of retailers! Amazon seems to have the best selection of HALO products, so I would start there! Target also has a good selection.
You also will need a fitted sheet, which you can find on Amazon too! There’s a variety of colors and styles to choose from.
Do you need the newborn insert?
HALO sells a newborn insert for the BassiNest, but the BassiNest is safe and appropriate to use on its own for your newborn baby. The insert made for HALO bassinets is the only insert that should be used in a BassiNest. It is safe up to 15 pounds or when the baby starts rolling over.
The insert makes the sleep space narrower for the baby, which makes them feel more secure. It looks a bit like a hammock, but it’s not; the flat sleep surface rests on the bassinet mattress.
Is the HALO BassiNest not level?
While I didn’t notice this, the HALO site says that there can be a slight tilt when the bassinet is swiveled, but it is within acceptable safety standards. It also can appear to be tilted more than it actually is because the front sidewall is lower than the back sidewall.
Is the HALO BassiNest worth it?
Overall, is the HALO BassiNest worth it? In my opinion, yes! If you have the money and the space, I absolutely loved having it. It gave me peace of mind knowing my baby was sleeping safely, and I loved the many amazing features that it had (the 360-degree swivel and lowering wall were amazing to have, especially in those early weeks!).
If you know you’re going to have more than one baby and that your baby will be in your room for a while over their crib, I think it’s totally worth it!
I hope this HALO BassiNest Swivel Sleeper review helped you know if this bassinet was right for you!

Hi! I have a platform bed similar to yours and the legs won’t fit under. Did you find it difficult to get your baby out? Also what did you transition to after 5 months?
Hi! I didn’t have much trouble but I also made sure to fully sit up before reaching over to get my baby. We transitioned to a crib.
